An open house of daring

A place of courage, a house with charisma – the University of Arts Linz sees itself as open space dedicated to critical thinking and shaping social processes. This mindset is reflected in an identity which uses a fluid framework that never stands still.

Background

The University of the Arts Linz is set among Austrias most important art universities and is a hot spot for cultural encounter in the region. Founded in 1947 and established in the spirit and tradition of 1920’s–1930’s german Bauhaus, its didactic and scientific approach is based on three main pillars intermediality, spatial strategy and artistic research. The University fosters diversity, cross-discipline work, experimentation and an open mind for exploring the arts.

An open flow

The new visual identity is based on a fluid framework. Embedded in a mindful layout, it provides flexible space for the various content of the students, teachers, employees and researchers. In this way, the identity works as a visual vessel which provides maximum space for individual expression and communication.

Constantly evolving

Interactivity, digitalisation and motion define the core principles of the visual language. The mirrored logotype allows to integrate two languages at once – referring to the international mindset of the institution.

Being dynamic both in thinking and in interaction with the future is one of the main drivers of the university. The framed layout can be used variously on spacial, print, motion or digital design and easily holds all type of content. While there is a clean setup for in-house information, we consciously did not create a rigid color hierarchy, but rather allow to use the brand colors freely.
